For those of you who are interested I thought I'd write up a quick post about the rules I'm following in addition to the #31DTM rules, along with over 200 other men, for #DecemberofDiscipline. I won't be listing the daily challenges here. If you want to see those, or if you want to compete the challenge yourself and you're not part of #DecemberofDisipline, buy the book.
There are certain rules that one most hold to when completing #31DTM. If you don't hold to them, then you fail. That's it. The rules are not negotiable.
It is not required that you add rules for successful completion of the program, but it makes the process more challenging and as a result provides more growth for the man doing it.
Here are my additional rules:
1. No drinking
2. No smoking
3. No fast food
4. No shit in my black coffee
5. Wake up at 6am every day
6. Run 1 mile every day
7. Cold showers only
8. Complete journal log every day
9. MAKE A VIDEO EVERY DAY
One of the rules of #31DTM is that participants must remove their vice(s) for the full 31 days. I don't have a major problem with drinking, and I occasionally smoke a cigar, I've already conquered fast food, and I've just gotten to where I'm enjoying black coffee. None of those are my vice, but it does help to have clearly defined rules in this process, so I won't be having any of those things for the month of December.
My biggest vice is relaxation. That may sound silly to some of you, but this is why I always talk about discipline, and one of the reasons that I'm doing #DecemberofDiscipline. I have spent most of my life being lazy, and as a result I have a natural predisposition toward laziness, as I'm sure at least some of you do.
But, this is #DecemberofDiscipline, not #DecemberofBullshitExcuses. I have outlined these extra rules for myself not only to bring more challenge to the process, but also to help me remove my vice.
I'm not saying that I will not rest, but laziness is out the door on this one. Taking only cold showers, completing a daily log and adding a daily 1 mile run in addition to the daily pushups and my other workouts will do wonders for cultivating a more disciplined mindset in me.
What about you? What are your extra challenges for #DecemberofDiscipline or #31DTM?
